1st Birthday Cake Smash – Twins!

Wow!  I can’t believe that Ava and Sienna are almost a year old.  Time is flying by so fast it seems like it was just yesterday that I was visiting with their Mommy and Daddy in the hospital meeting them for the 1st time and shooting their newborn photos.   I don’t know who had more fun with this cake smash…me or the girls.  The girls did such a good job smashing the cakes to almost nothing!

Pete & Cassandra | San Diego Underwater Maternity Photography/Maternity Shoot

Pete and Cassandra: sitting in a tree: K-I-S-S-: I-N-G: First comes love,: then comes marriage,: then comes baby: in a baby carriage!

You may remember the Trash the Dress shoot we did back in 2010 with Pete and Cassandra; both of them in a massive yellow flower field and riding their Sector 9 skateboards down a country road.  Well…2 years have gone by and now they are expecting a little bundle of joy any day now.

When Cassandra and Pete contacted Erika Thornes (Erika and I work as a underwater photography team) and I to do their underwater maternity session we could not have been more excited… then Pete mentioned that he had a old guitar that he was willing to sacrifice in the “dunk”…I think Erika and I were like two little kids in a candy store planning what we would do with props underwater.

We also had to recreate the Sector 9 photo with Cassandra running next to Pete and their son (just like the trash the dress shot).

Thanks Pete and Cassandra!  We loved EVERY minute of shooting these!!!!

San Diego Underwater Maternity Photography

The one thing that I love about San Diego is that we are splashing in the pool year round!  These photos were taken in early January (and it was high 70′s outside and low 80′s in the pool).  Erika Thornes and I had so much fun shooting this Mommy and Daddy to be!  Dad was a avid surfer and brought along his surfboard to use as a prop.

I Heart Faces Photo Challenge | Hearts 2012

Now that Kyle is a little older and able to entertain himself and walk on his own I am trying to pick up my camera more during the weekdays.  I am also trying to get more involved with the weekly challenges on iheartfaces.com and sync up with my fellow photographers on clickin’ moms and our local San Diego dSLR club.  This week’s photo challenge is “Hearts”. I know that I blogged this photo when I took it last week but I thought that it is PERFECT for this photo challenge and it shows Kyle’s personality to a tee.  Last year the theme during the week of Valentine’s Day was also “Hearts” (take a look at last years entry <HERE>…Kyle is getting SO BIG!!!!).  To see other entries from this week’s challenge go to http://www.iheartfaces.com/2012/02/heart-photo-challenge/
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day

We are always so rushed and busy in the month of December we usually bypass x-mas cards and skip to Valentine’s Day cards.  It is always so much fun to create Valentine’s Day cards because people do not always expect them when they hit their mailboxes…it is a little surprise.

On Tuesday of this week the San Diego weather forecast called for a “big” rain storm (which means a few sprinkles here and there and maybe a little wind).  I thought for sure I would be able to shoot the outdoor photos of Kyle that I envisioned…but by 10 that morning there was still no rain so I decided to go for it.  I loaded Kyle up with a half dozen heart balloons and headed out East in search of a country road or rustic field.  By the time we arrived at our location Kyle was sound asleep and the wind was blowing so hard it was rocking our car.  After sitting in our car for over an hour (gave me some time to catch up on emails, facebook, instagram and pin a few items on pinterest) Kyle woke up and the wind settled down a little.  I thought for sure we would have maybe 10 minutes before the skies opened up and dumped on us and I was hoping to get at least one good shot for the front of his Valentine’s Day Card!  So I rushed Kyle out in the middle of a open field tied the balloons to the back of his pants just in time for him to have a massive melt down because the balloons were attached to him – I had to include a few photos of that below.  It is funny…you would think shooting your own kid would be easier than shooting clients!  I found myself in the middle of a empty cow pasture belting “If your Happy and you know it”  at the top of my lungs to my toddler.  After that wore off I discovered Kyle would laugh hysterically at me jumping and yelling “JUMP” (jumping is his new activity).  Talk about a workout and on top of that it is hard to focus and compose your shot when you are jumping up and down!

Happy Valentine’s Day 2012!
